Who our tax services are for
- Residents of Spain, including people who have recently moved, who need their income tax returns prepared and planned
- Non-residents who own property or earn income in Spain, who must deal with Spanish non-resident income tax and, in many cases, need fiscal representation
- Companies and self-employed professionals, for corporate tax, VAT and the obligations that follow from their accounts
- Families and heirs dealing with inheritance and gift tax as residents or non-residents
- Investors buying or selling property or businesses, for transfer tax and stamp duty
Resident or non-resident: the first question we look at
Most tax questions in Spain start with residence. Under the Personal Income Tax Act, article 9, you are a Spanish tax resident for a calendar year if any of these apply:
You spend more than 183 days in Spain during the year. Occasional absences count as time in Spain unless you prove tax residence in another country.
The main centre or base of your business activities or economic interests is in Spain.
Unless you prove otherwise, your spouse (not legally separated) and your dependent minor children live in Spain.
Residents are taxed on their income wherever it arises (article 2). Non-residents pay non-resident income tax on the income they obtain in Spain. When you also have ties to another country, a tax treaty may decide where you are resident. We look at your facts in that order before we plan anything else.

Frequently asked questions
When do you become a tax resident in Spain?
Under Spanish income tax law you are resident in a calendar year if you spend more than 183 days in Spain, if Spain is the main centre of your business or economic interests, or, unless you prove otherwise, if your spouse (not legally separated) and dependent minor children live in Spain (Personal Income Tax Act, article 9). Residents pay Spanish income tax on their worldwide income; non-residents pay non-resident income tax on income obtained in Spain. Your exact position depends on your facts and any tax treaty, which is what we review with you.
